A Proper Start: Bacon Rolls & a Routemaster
Some events are so much fun that I almost wish I were there as a guest rather than a photographer. The Boisdale Dale Quadranet Shooting Chefs 2025 was one of those. Organised by Boisdale Restaurants, this annual event brings together some of London’s top chefs and restaurateurs for a day of clay pigeon shooting, haggis throwing, and plenty of champagne-fuelled camaraderie.
The day kicked off bright and early at 8 am with bacon rolls in Belgravia—because no great British sporting event should begin on an empty stomach. From there, guests boarded an old Routemaster bus, which added a brilliant touch of nostalgia as it wound its way to the prestigious Holland & Holland Shooting Grounds.
Set in 120 acres of beautiful countryside, Holland & Holland is one of the finest shooting destinations in England, offering world-class shotgun and rifle instruction. It was the perfect setting for a bit of friendly competition as chefs and restaurateurs took their best shots at simulated game targets, with varying degrees of success.

Champagne, Whisky & Haggis Boules
After the morning’s shooting, everyone headed back to the lodge, where the champagne started flowing. Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Balvenie Malt Whisky, and Highclere Castle Gin kept spirits high as guests took part in another crucial competition—the British Haggis Boules Championship. If you’ve never seen haggis being hurled with precision, you’re missing out.
Then, it was back to Boisdale for a spectacular lunch, where awards were presented by host Bill Knott. Highlights included:
- HAGGIS BOULES WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 – proving that there is, in fact, an art to throwing haggis.
- BEST SIMULATED PARTRIDGE SHOT – for the sharpest shooter of the day.
- BY FAR THE WORST SHOT OF THE DAY – possibly the most coveted award of them all!
The Perfect Blend of Sport, Food & Fun
As events go, this one had it all—great food, top-tier drinks, a bit of friendly competition, and a lot of laughter. It’s one of those rare days where you see some of the best names in hospitality completely letting loose, all in the name of good fun. If you ever get the chance to attend, don’t hesitate. And if you’re looking for a photographer who can capture the spirit of an event like this, you know where to find me!
This event was made possible by the generous sponsors many of whom are mentioned above along with DNA Payments, The Rare Breed Meat Co, Davidoff Cigars, Davy’s, LVHM and William Grant.
